Texas Medical Center (TMC) is the primary teaching hospital for the
McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science
Center at Houston (UTHealth). Memorial Hermann -TMC provides
leading edge care in heart, neuroscience, orthopedics, women's
health, general surgery, organ transplantation and much more. As
one of only two certified Level I trauma centers in the Greater
Houston area, the hospital provides 24/7 emergency and trauma Care.
Memorial Hermann Life Flight provides emergency rescue within a 150
mile radius. The Director of Patient Care position is responsible
for providing leadership, direction and support for the Operating
Room at the Texas Medical Center, ensuring the delivery of quality
care to patients; and for planning, implementing, reviewing and
controlling the budget, staffing, and robust process improvement.
Job Description Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelors of
Nursing degree from a n acc r e di t e d sc h ool of professional
nu r sing required; Masters Degree preferred
Licenses/Certifications: Current State of Texas license or
temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
Professional Certification in clinical area or management within
one year of hire preferred Experience Knowledge / Skills : Five (5)

Hermann. Principal Accountabilities Directs the day-to-day
operations for assigned patient care departments, maintaining 24/7
operational responsibility and directing clinical and non-clinical
staff. Reviews and approves all new hires, establishes and controls
standards for performance a ppr a isals; works with managers to
identify sta f fing n ee ds a nd p r ovides for acc o r din g l y ;
coordin a tes t r a in i ng n ee ds of sta f f with education d e p
a rtme n t; r e mains a v a i l a ble, acce ss i ble a nd vis i ble

f o r man ce . Works with service line leaders and managers to
establish departmental scope of service, goals and strategic plan
for the department; stays up-to-date on new developments in the
field and incorporates such in the department’s scope of service;
reviews departmental policies, procedures, and systems; conducts
appropriate department promotional activities and participates in
hospital market activities. Monitors a nd dir ec ts a ll p a t i e
nt ca re ac t i vi t ies. Considers the diverse needs of each
patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and
ensuring the highest level of service according to established
service standards, optimizing the patient experience. Participates
in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of
programs, process improvement, desired client-centered outcomes,

competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the
success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and
resource to less experienced staff. Other duties as assigned.
