This is a Part-Time assignment in the City's Courts Service Department. The position reports to the Director of Courts Services. An individual in this position provides daily security to the court in different areas, including courtroom & lobby; incumbent may execute warrants as assigned by the Director of Court Services after consultation with the Police Chief or designee.

The Missouri City Police Department will hold the Bailiffs Peace Officer Certificate.

Examples of Work:

  • Protects the court by providing security for its officers and all associated with its proceedings; maintains decorum of the court; collects and retains unauthorized firearms from persons entering courtroom; and maintains order at the court service windows;
  • Assists with court proceedings by announcing entrance of judge; assembling and segregating witnesses and jurors from all other citizens during deliberations; and answering questions and explaining court procedures to defendants and other citizens.
  • Provides administrative support by contacting defendants by telephone prior to service of warrants; managing FTA/OMNI letters; verifying repair of defective equipment violations; interacting with warrant officers to facilitate collection of fines; logging all case information and findings; and compiling monthly report of various administrative activities.
  • Maintains the courtroom by arranging seating; maintaining equipment; and ensuring the orderliness of courtroom appearance.
  • Other duties include assisting court staff with data entry, filing, confirming addresses and phone numbers for cases in warrants; and performing related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Subject to 24 hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification: High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate and a minimum of two years of professional experience as a police officer. Must hold a valid TCOLE Peace Officer Certificate. The Human Resources and Organizational Development Department may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

The Missouri City Police Department must hold the Bailiff's Peace Officer Certificate.
