DescriptionBurns & McDonnell has an exciting career opportunity
for a Senior Geologist to join our Remediation Department in Texas.
We are seeking a motivated candidate to expand our environmental
consulting practice supporting and managing environmental
investigation and remediation projects for clientele within a
variety of business sectors including electrical utility, solid
waste, manufacturing, oil and gas, renewable energy, and others.
The ideal candidate could work from our Austin, Houston or Fort
Worth office locations.This position offers challenging work with
significant project variety at a successful, growing company that
has been in business for more than 125 years. The successful
candidate will have the opportunity to take on project delivery
responsibilities, tackling the most challenging environmental
issues of today for a portfolio of established clients.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will help expand our remediation
services and client base in the region. This position supports the
growth of the Environmental Services Practice based upon Burns &

successful candidate will lead and support multiple remediation
projects as well as manage and complete independent project tasks.
Additional responsibilities include initiating or assisting in
proposal development, coordinating project planning, and mentoring
junior staff. Project planning tasks include developing scopes of
work and schedules, providing technical experience in the
development of client deliverables, managing subcontractors,
contracts, schedules, and budgets.The Senior Geologist will work
within our region's Remediation Department and collaborate broadly
in support of our Environmental Services Practice to perform the
following duties:
- Act as technical resource and manage site investigation,
remedial design and compliance/enforcement projects including
responsibility for scope, schedule, budgets and conveyance of
high-quality technical deliverables.
- Lead preparation of work plans, investigation reports,
feasibility studies, remedial design and implementation in
accordance with CERCLA, RCRA, the Texas Risk Reduction Program
(TRRP), and other state led programs.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key
pursuits.
- Contribute to business development activities responding to
market trends and technological advances to pursue and grow client
engagement in the public and private sector.
- Remediation system design and operation, including in-situ
remedies, cover systems, recovery and treatment, waste management,
etc.
- Deliver desktop assessments, planning, reporting, and execution
of construction solutions for successful closure of CCR landfills
and surface impoundments.
- Partner with and support the Emerging Contaminants team within
Environmental Services, as well as the multi-divisional PFAS team
providing PFAS solutions to clients across all markets, industries,
and geographies.
- Establish, build, and maintain relationships with agency
personnel, internal Burns & McDonnell customers (in the engineering
practices) and external clients.
- Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less
experienced staff members and support internal technical training
and mentorship programs.
- Work to effectively balance billable and non-billable
time.
- Other duties as required by business line needs.Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Geology or related Environmental degree from
an accredited program is required.
- 8 years of related professional experience (10 years preferred)
with knowledge of OSHA, CERCLA and remedial design.
- Experience with Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments
and/or site investigations, collecting soil and groundwater
samples, logging soil borings, installing and developing monitoring
wells, data analysis is a plus.
- Experience with and working knowledge of State and/or Federal
regulations desired.
- PG license in Texas preferred.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work
methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving
environment.
- Existing client relationships are also a plus.
- Business development experience and demonstrated ability to
develop and maintain strong client relationships as well as
experience in proposal preparation.
- Demonstrated scientific and/or engineering experience
delivering TRRP solutions required.
- Experience in remediation project delivery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a self-starter, team oriented with excellent verbal and
written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building,
collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Must be proficient in the use of computer software (Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet
standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving
privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety
